To transform Taicom into a leader in Internet retrieval equipment manufacturing has become the major strategic operation guideline since the newly appointed President Chen Chia-yuan took office in January this year.

Taicom Data System Co., Ltd., established in 1977, has set its production guidepost featured by innovation, vitality and excellence. In its early operation, the company relied primarily on being the agent for giant foreign data transmission product manufacturers. In 1983, seeing the great potential of 3c products, the company brought in new technology from abroad and hired technical personnel to formally plunge itself into the research and development and manufacturing of communications and telecom products. To begin with, Taicom was for the most part engaged in the production of data transmission products, becoming a long-term supplier to Chunghwa Telecom.

Development and progress made in the global information technology has made every country in the world want to promote liberalization of telecommunications so that they can elevate their competitiveness. Added by the rapid progress in Internet that requires construction of communications network on a large scale, the potential of business opportunities has made Taicom reposition its standing in the industry. Approximately 90% of the overall volume of communications before, pointed out President Chen, was voice-related. In recent few years, however, the structure has changed and that the volume of data transmission communications has surpassed voice transmission to the point that some voice message is being transmitted through data transmission. This is a trend that is totally unstoppable. In addition, it is a foregone conclusion that development of future telecommunications will be based on the Internet and not by the analog transmission. As a result, the complete system is bound to be transmitted through the mechanism of ISDN. To Taicom, given its existing core technology and predominant position of its products, it would be real easy to move into the Internet communications sector.

With the promotion of telecom liberalization, integration of telecom and Internet has become a trend for the future. To meet the development in the Internet communications, Taicom has organized an Internet business group in addition to reorganization of its top management. Under the leadership of President Chen Chia-yuan, the company is to focus on division of labor and effective distribution of its work force. Besides, Taicom is confident in its ability in integration of the technology and production of switches, leaning toward its future line of business in the direction of multi-layer telecom integration. At present major products of Taicom include modem, circuit amplifier, ISDN TA, router, industrial modem, Internet products and electronic products.

In future, Taicom plans to integrate its current linchpin copper wire technology and, based on its existing products, develop its core products such as ADSL, ADSL router, ISDN router, PSTN router, home PNA, VoIP brake, IP brake and DSLAM.

President Chen pointed out Taicom's future development will focus on the integration of the technology research and development for its core products, making the company a manufacturer of Internet retrieval equipment. To maintain its leading position in the marketplace, the company vows to hold its strong R&D team and its marketing edge so that customer's response can be quickly reflected.
